It’s Starting to Feel Like Fringe Again

It’s finally starting to feel like The Fringe. The fatigue from seven nights a week is now a distant memory, and I’m back in the groove.
another sold-out show last night, the room was packed. Brilliant audience too — especially compared to Day Two, where the vibe was flatter than a pint left out in the sun.
People have been very generous with the bucket this year. Mind you, it is a small basement — and when a guy from Northern Ireland asks for money, you’re not going to disagree with him.
This morning, my guests arrived — Ezra and Lemco, better known ( to me ) as The Dutch Brothers. I met them three years ago at the festival when they jumped on a few of my shows, and they were hilarious. Surreal, inventive, and a bit mad in the best way.
They’ve just come off a tour around Holland, and I’m looking forward to seeing what they’ve cooked up now. Ironically, they told me it’s got something to do with a microwave on stage… so make of that what you will.
I’ve told them they’re in Scotland, so they’ve packed a bikini, a raincoat, overalls, and suntan lotion. Covering all bases.
They’re staying in my flat for two week.
When the Fringe comes along, you can charge five grand for a cupboard and get away with it. I didn’t actually charge them five grand… more like ten.…Nah, I wouldn’t do that. Or would I?
They’ll be my guests tomorrow night — so if you want to see some wonderfully unique comedy, make sure you’re there.
Extra shout-out to Lenny Walker — he was on fire last night. Great to see him back at the club.
And Gary Lynch… well, Gary being Gary, the most charming man in the world, ended up going for a drink with a lovely American girl from the audience. Wink wink... If Jeff Bridges and Russell Crowe had a kid, Gary would be the end result.
I’m lucky with The Canons’ Gait. Shout-out to the full bar team — Nick, Amber, Joel, Hamish, Gemma, Siobhan, Scott, Bex, and Mac — absolute legends every one of them. Nice to be working with your friends. They keep the place running, deal with the chaos, and put up with as much nonsense this month as we do on stage.
If you come to my shows, tip the bar staff. Don’t be tight. They’ve earned it.
We were even working on a plan to have one of the bar staff tell a joke at the end of each show. Mac was up first, but she pulled out at the last minute. “I’m too nervous!” she said. I reckon she would have smashed it.
And as for Hamish… still a troublemaker. Led me astray on opening night and made me lose my voice. He’ll tell you otherwise — don’t believe him.
Today’s looking like another good one. This afternoon I’m doing a spot Irish Headliners with Ian Christopher at 2:55. If you’re reading this before then and fancy helping, come along and hand out a few flyers. Then tonight it’s back to The Comedy Cellar for my own show.
So that was Day Whatever. . Day 3? Day four? Day PBH?
Either way — RSVP below as its first come first served.
