FRINGE DIARY: DAY 9 - WEEK ONE DONE

WEEK ONE DONE. TWO TO GO.
First week: finished. Two to go. Said lovingly… with that passive-aggressive Fringe smile you get after a week sleeping beside a microwave that sounds like a helicopter extraction.
Audiences have been unreal—generous, sharp, up for mischief. Proper Fringe heads and curious tourists crammed into a basement because someone whispered, “It’s raw Irish comedy, not a TED Talk with punchlines.”
The flat? Claustrophobic in a charming, hostage-style way. Too many people staying. My partner goes, “It makes me feel 24 again.” Amazing—for 24 hours. Then you need electrolytes and a quiet cry.
Dutch antics: Efde & Efde are out there like guerilla marketers who’ve just discovered cardboard. Cardboard cut-outs, photos with tourists, the lot. I love them. I fear them. I want them on my PR team.
Last night’s heat: The room turned into a sauna with a stage. Which meant for a very uncomfortable show for me & the audience. Some well-meaning acts keep turning the air-con off manually (don’t), which resets it and slow-cooks the next show. I did crowd work. I did jokes. I sweated from places I didn’t know could sweat, my ass crack mainly! The crowd were still game—saints in shorts.

“My accent’s like fireworks. Like fireworks. Great craic… until one goes off right beside your face.”
We’ve had mental health hecklers, the occasional bore and loads of brilliant punters who get exactly what we’re doing

Today I’m marking the end of Week One with a wee cheeky spot at Ian Christopher’s Irish Headliners—quick hit, in-and-out—then my own show later. After that, I’m nicking some down time with herself. Reset. Reload. Back at.
